When did this podcast start?

The idea for this podcast started two years ago, as a R/Hr podcast only. It never really got anywhere until Feb. 2009 when it was decided to become a R/Hr and R/E podcast between Love Unchained and R/E Fan. It then seemed that it still wasn't going to get anywhere until Shlesha and Natalie from the R/E forum started talking about wanting to do a R/E podcast. Courtney then approached them and asked if they would want to do a R/E and R/Hr podcast. So on April 3rd 2009 the whole thing finally start to get off the ground thanks to everyone who responded on the forum. Several others from the forum wanted to join the podcast so we started talking to one another on Skype through the text chat feature! Finally we set a date to record on April 9th 2009. We've had a blast so far and can't wait to do it again!

 

Why did you want to start this podcast?

 

There are several reasons to start a joint R/E and R/Hr podcast. The first one being that D/E shippers and H/Hr shippers had one so why not us? Secondly we wanted a way to reach out to other shippers and talk in real time instead of on message boards and IM. There is so much you can tell about someone by the inflection in thier voice that you cannot get from writing on the web! We also would like to reach out to our listeners and get feedback and discussion topics. And the last reason for this podcast? Because it's fun! We are all friends and it is great to get to know each other better and just have fun talking about things/people that we all enjoy!

 

Why did you call it R/Eal Love?

 

R/Eal stands for Rupert and Emma and refers to both the actors and the Rupert/Emma Fan Forum where this project started. Love referes to the love between Rupert and Emma as well as Ron and Hermione. It also refers to Love Unchained [dot] com which is MsBigBad's Ron/Hermione website where the podcast idea was also originated.

 

What programs/equipment do you use to record and edit?

 

We all use Skype to talk with each other, and we all have differet microphones and headsets to speak in. We use Audacity to record and export as an .mp3. Finally we use Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 to edit the whole thing together.

 

How can I start my own podcast?

 

Well first you need an original idea/topic for a podcast. Once you have that try getting other people who are interested in the topic together and ask if they would like to record. You will need to download a free program called Audacity to record, and another free chat program called Skype to talk to one another. You will need a headset or desk mic to record your own voice. You will need a blog or website to post the episodes on,once they are edited. Make sure you have an outline of things to talk about. Call all members that want to record on Skype. You will all need to have a file for Audacity called the lame file. This allows you to export your recording as an .mp3. Then you will all want to hit record at the same time on Audacity. Introduce the show and yourselves. Go through your outline, and most importantly have fun! Once you have recorded your first episode you will need to save it by going to export as MP3 in the file menu of Audacity. One member should be chosen to edit the podcast together. Send all your finished recordings to that person who will edit the podcast in an editing program such as Sony Vegas or even Audacity. Upload the finished file to your server or to a file sharing website if you don't have enough storage space. Post the link on your site or blog, and you're done!
